Archaeological Sites: Tus

Tus is a city in northeastern Iran identified as a pre-Islamic settlement. The city was destroyed in the thirteenth century, and is today best known for one of its most famous residents, the poet Ferdowsi, whose tomb was rebuilt in the 1930s. The layout of the modern monument was based on and executed after design drafts and drawings by Herzfeld and Andre Godard. The squeezes are from the Haruniya Mausoleum and gravestones.
