Archaeological Sites: Sunghur

Sunghur. Negative no. 2533. Ernst Herzfeld papers, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery Archives.

The monuments at Sunghur (Sonqor) near Kirmanshah in western Iran date from the Ilkhanid period (1256-1353 CE) and later. Herzfeld visited the village in 1923 and left several comments on the local populations in his diary. The squeezes in this group are from gravestones in the local cemeteries.
