Archaeological Sites: Shiraz

Shiraz, located in southwest Iran, is known as the city of poets, nightingales, and flowers. Shiraz is mentioned in texts and tablets dating from pre-Islamic times. Today, it is one of the most popular travel destinations in Iran. The late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century bazaars and homes of local rulers have been described by travelers, such as Pierre Loti, who often stayed there on their way to the pre-Islamic monuments. Herzfeld stayed several times in Shiraz, visiting the tomb of Hafiz and Saadi. These squeezes are of the Khatun Mausoleum, and Shah Da'i.
