Celebration of India Black-tie Benefit Gala
Wednesday, April 30

The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution will host a 2008 black-tie benefit Gala in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the opening of Muraqqa': Imperial Mughal Albums from the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin.

April 30, 2008 commences a two-year celebration of the arts and culture of India at the Freer and Sackler Galleries with the opening of Muraqqa - an exhibition of one of the world's greatest collections of 17th-century Mughal empire album paintings. Under the patronage of The Honorable Ronen Sen, Ambassador of India to the United States, and special guest, His Highness Gaj Singh II the Maharaja of Marwar-Jodhpur, this evening will feature magnificent expressions of the cosmopolitan vision depicted in these albums.

In the grand tradition of the Maharajas, the evening begins with a lively reception accented by Indian musicians and dancers at 6:30 p.m. in the Smithsonian's Haupt Garden and Sackler Pavilion. The festivities continue with a tented al fresco dinner outside on the north side of the Freer Gallery. To conclude, guests will enjoy dessert and dancing in the magnificent Freer Courtyard.

We hope you will join us for this exciting celebration! Individual tickets for $1,500 can be purchased beginning March 16th. A portion of your contribution is tax-deductible.

Tables of eight or ten are available with an array of benefits. To purchase tables, please return the table reservation form to the Office of Special Events.
