Rules: Freer|Sackler Fan Favorite Contest

  1. Entrants must be natural persons, current U.S. residents, and 18 years of age or older, except that entrants may not be a regent, officer, employee, fellow, intern, research associate, or volunteer of the Smithsonian Institution or a member of any of the foregoing’s immediate family or household. Would-be entrants who are under the age of 18 should ask their parents or legal guardians to enter on the entrants’ behalf.
  2. To enter, between 10 am on Monday, November 2, 2015, and 11:59 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2015 (all times Eastern), publicly share an image of a fan you (or your child/ward) created at home (using the template provided on asia.si.edu/sotatsu) or on site in the Freer|Sackler on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram with hashtags #sotatsu and #freersackler. If you are entering on behalf of your child or ward, mention that in your posting. Please do not inaccurately tag your entry.
  3. One entry per person. Multiple entries are void, except that a parent or legal guardian may submit on behalf of more than one child or ward.
  4. The Smithsonian will award one prize to one person. The prize is a Sōtatsu: Making Waves gift basket (including related accessories and a publication) that has a fair market value of approximately US $50. If this prize becomes unavailable for any reason, the Smithsonian reserves the right to substitute a prize of like or equal value. Winners may not request prize substitution.
  5. Judging: Freer|Sackler staff will select five finalists (the “favorites”), which will be posted to an album on facebook.com/freersackler. The public will have two weeks to vote, from 12 pm on Monday, January 11, 2016, to 11:59 pm on Monday, January 25, 2016, (all times Eastern); to vote, one must click “like” on the image of his or her favorite fan(s). The image that receives the most likes by the contest’s end will receive a prize. In case of a tie, the exhibition curator will select the winner. Smithsonian will notify winner via the social media platform he or she used to enter the contest. Failure to respond within five business days means the winner forfeits the prize.
  6. Entry materials must: be lawful, true, and accurate; contain only the entrant’s own original material or material for which entrant has full authority and permission to grant the rights set forth in these rules; and not infringe on the rights of any third party. By entering, entrant warrants that the entry materials he or she submits comply with these rules.
  7. Entrants give the Smithsonian permission to use the entry materials they submit to promote the contest and the exhibition and for general museum use after the contest ends. If an entrant is selected as winner and accepts the prize, his or her name and handle may be shared on the Freer|Sackler’s social platforms.
  8. All entrants hold the Smithsonian, its regents, officers, employees, fellows, interns, research associates, and volunteers, as well as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, harmless from and against all claims of any nature arising in connection with entrant’s participation in the contest, acceptance or use of prize. The Smithsonian and its regents, officers, employees, fellows, interns, research associates, and volunteers are not liable for any costs, damages, injuries, or other claims incurred as a result of entrants’ participation in the contest or winner’s acceptance and usage of the prize.
  9. Finalists and winner may be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility, publicity and liability release.
  10. The Smithsonian is not responsible for incomplete or misdirected entries, technical or network malfunctions or failures, or causes beyond its control. Entrants are solely responsible for their entries. Entrants may not submit materials that: introduce any software viruses, worms, or other programs designed to damage software, hardware, or telecommunications equipment; are off-topic or partisan-political; contain advertising, personal attacks, or expletives; are otherwise abusive, threatening, unlawful, harassing, discriminatory, libelous, obscene, false, or pornographic; or infringe on the rights of any third party. The Smithsonian reserves the right to disqualify any entrant whose entry or conduct appears in any way to: inhibit the enjoyment of others; tamper with the competition; violate these Rules; infringe on the rights of third parties; or act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. The Smithsonian reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at any time for any reason at its discretion. In the event of a dispute regarding the winners, the Smithsonian reserves the right to award or not award the prizes in its sole discretion. By entering this contest, entrants agree to be bound by these Rules and the decisions of the Smithsonian, which are final and binding in all respects. No purchase necessary to enter or win. Contest void where prohibited. Winner is responsible for all taxes on the prize, if any. This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
