Puja: Expressions of Hindu Devotion

In India, Hindu's express religious devotion through puja, the act of showing reverence to a god or aspects of the divine through invocations, prayers, songs, and rituals. Art and ritual come together in this exhibition of 125 works, in various media, which help visitors understand how art objects are used in puja. Also considered are puja environments: shrines located in temples, the home, or outdoors.

The exhibition was awarded second place in the 9th Annual Exhibit Competion sponsored by the Curator's Committee of the American Associatoin of Museums.

The 12-minute video that accompanies the exhibition was awarded a Bronze Apple by the National Educational Media Network.

The Exhibit was on view in the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery.
