Bio: Karen De Mauro

Karen De Mauro, artistic director at the Acting Center, has made a lifelong commitment to exploring the process and practice of acting as a path of personal and spiritual growth. Throughout her career she has balanced work in professional commercial venues and experimental projects with such theater visionaries as Joseph Chaikin, Anne Bogart, and Andre Gregory. She continues to straddle the worlds of Broadway and those of the multiple forums in community, regional, and international theater. By bringing together established professionals with people from all walks of life, De Mauro creates venues that facilitate the growth of the actor in everyone. Her three decades of work in these highly participatory performances are documented in her forthcoming book Acting as A Way.
