DJ Turbo Tabla is the creation of Karim Nagi, a classically trained Arabic musician, master percussionist, and folk dancer. His original dance music combines traditional voices and instrumentation with techno and house soundscapes. Nagi plays live percussion with the mixes and completes the sets with modern and old-school Arabic music, Indian and pan-Eastern anthems, and the occasional disco desert remake. As Turbo Tabla, he has released four CDs, two of which are distributed by Universal Records. His latest, Unregulated, boasts a hybrid of Punjabi fusion, Bedouin remixes, and Italian overtures. Nagi is also known for his traditional concerts and lectures, several of which have been held at the Freer and Sackler Galleries.
